“local Iceland resident”

First stop: SEYDISFJORDUR, an incredibly picturesque town located on the east coast of Iceland, renowned for its vibrant arts scene, colorful 19th century historic wooden houses along with stunning fjord landscapes. This “off-the-beaten-path” destination most people never see (but you will) and is one of Iceland’s most picturesque villages with a thriving community of 656 local residents! The approach to the town features the rushing Gufufoss waterfall while the nearby Skálanes Nature Reserve (10 miles from town) is a protected haven for puffins and other birdlife. From a visit to the landmark “blue church” to exploring the town on foot, there’s a host of side tours to experience or perhaps just take a hike? This is one “small town” straight out of yesteryear you’ll not believe.

“Whale watching in Akureyri”

Next stop in Iceland is AKUREYRI, known for it’s fabulous fishing port, friendly people, whale watching, and stunning landscapes. The town is best known as the gateway to Iceland’s thundering waterfalls, natural wonders, gurgling lava fields, sweeping fjords, robust folk culture, and is located just 62 miles south of Arctic Circle (top of the world). To the south are the Botanical Gardens, with specimens from across Iceland. Akureyri has no shortage of fascinating attractions, like Dimmuborgir, which might be the only way you’ll ever see a lava field up close. From electrifying white water rafting to a 4×4 Jeep safari with a delicious lobster lunch, and from nature and wildlife tours to natural baths, whatever you choose to do in Akureyri, it’s sure to be the adventure of a lifetime!

“Quaint Isafjordur harbor”

Last stop...ISAFJORDUR, located in the northwest region of Iceland. This delightful town is known for its corrugated tin roof houses built by fishing merchants in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Westfjords Heritage Museum has exhibits on the town’s maritime history, including an awesome collection of old fishing boats. The old hospital, now a cultural center, contains archives and photography and the town has one of the largest fisheries in Iceland. A MUST SEE is the astounding Dynjandi waterfall…the most beautiful in all of Iceland!
